Molecular Evolutionary and Developmental Biology
The mission of the Molecular Evolutionary and Developmental Biology node is to support cutting-edge research that will enhance IUB's stature as a world leader in, and garner substantial additional external support for, the study of evolutionary genomics, the evolution of development, and related areas that will contribute to the long-term success of the METACyt Initiative.
MEDB Focus Areas
- Evolutionary Genomics. We invite proposals that seek to provide a global understanding of genome evolution.
Specific topics of interest include, but are not limited to, gene duplication and gene families, lateral gene transfer,
mutation rates, and recombination. Projects may focus on any organism or group of organisms, or may involve comparison
among distantly related organisms. Projects may rely principally on generation of new data, or computational analysis
of preexisting data, or some combination of both.
- Evolution of Development. We seek proposals that aim to uncover the molecular, genetic, and/or developmental bases of the evolution of new morphologies and developmental trajectories. As above, proposals may focus on any organism or group of organisms, and may include a range of mixtures of wet-lab and computational approaches as appropriate.
