METACyt Call For Preproposals

(REVISED 06/26/06 - Final proposal deadline extended)

Proposals are no longer being accepted for this round of funding.

New METACyt funding in round 2 will concentrate on major projects. Examples:

  • Creation of an important research facility and or research center. Competitive plans will support the work of significant numbers of life scientists and include plans for long-term financial sustainability.
  • Assembly of a core group of collaborators focused on an important problem integral to the NIH Roadmap, or some other specific federal opportunity. The problem should be of a scope that will be suitable to develop funding into a federally supported national center, or program project.

Single investigator proposals, while of lower priority, will still be entertained if they fulfill one of the following criteria:

  • Continuation support for previously supported METACyt work that appears to be highly promising and is nearing fruition. Evidence of strong progress in the previous grant period is essential, as is a specific target for independent funding.
  • Exceptionally exciting and novel ideas that require modest seed funding to generate sufficient results for federal funding. These projects must fit into one of the previously described research node areas of interest. (METACyt nodes include: Analytical Technology Development; Cell Signaling and Differentiation; Microbial Systems; Molecular Evolutionary and Development Biology; and Neuroscience.)
  • Seed projects that can translate in the near term into important and commercially viable IP in the life sciences.
